Immersion

I walk into the forest a couple kilometres, not far from where I live here in the Kawarthas, to this spot where I am alone on the Otonabee River. I sit here as I do many days, listening to the birds sing, the woodpeckers working, the carp rolling in the shallows and the muskelunge splashing in the river. Occasionally a beaver swims by and the wild turkeys wander near. I have never seen another person here. Its a place where I find it easy to contemplate and occasionally write and sometimes paint.

  1. A very native way of thinking when you speak of the earth and nature. But I think sometimes we project our own limitations onto others. We are fortunate in that we no longer have to engage in the daily grind of going to work, working and then going home. Those engaged in earning a living and raising a family need coping mechanisms and be able to rationalize what they are doing, in that process the heart may get left out.

    1. AJ. I agree with you that there are those engaged in earning a living and raising a family need coping mechanisms and be able to rationalize what they are doing, in that process the heart may get left out. Maybe this is why we have gone astray. We cant speak up or do what we need to do in terms of the hard work and changes that are required to see the truth of ourselves and what we are doing to the planet and other beings and to follow a more authentic way because we might upset the status quo. As you point out it is our ways of coping that is the problem. don’t think it is a projection of my limitations. Its expression of the limitation. We make choices however unconscious and conditioned. Our conditioned society is stuck, as individuals we can find our souls again and survive if we take the initiative to see how we have been blocked. Ive taken those difficult steps. Its a work in progress but I feel that something has to be done to end our indulgent self encapsulated ways and the most I can do is authentically express my own experience through my art and my writing and how I live.
      Thanks AJ
We need this kind of dialogue.
